The Kamakura (Kamakura Jidai) period begin in 1185 and ended in 1333. The Name comes from the city of Kamakura located 50 km southwest of Tokyo where Shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo decided to install his capital there. During this period, many Buddhist schools appeared and many temples were built.
