08 Shikoku pilgrimage : Kumadani-ji Hōrin-ji
The Kumadani-ji Temple is the eighth of the 88 temples of the Shikoku pilgrimage. Kumadani-ji means Temple of the Bear Valley.
The impressive main gate (sanmon) of the Kumadaniji Temple was built in 1687 and is considered one of the most beautiful of all pilgrimage temples.
In the garden of Kumadani-ji Temple, there is a pine tree wich looks like a dragon.

Temple history :
The temple was founded by Kōbō Daishi in the year 815, he carved a large statue of Senju Kannon Bosatsu and placed a smaller one inside. According to legend, this little statue of Kannon Bosatsu come from a shinto kami (deity). In 1927, a fire destroyed the main hall and Dashi Hall. Because of the war, reconstruction was not completed until 1960
