十三仏
Jūsanbutsu
The thirteen Buddhas of Shingon Buddhism
The 13 Buddhasreviewed, to be validated
Jūsanbutsu (十三仏) are the thirteen Buddhas (or equivalent deities) invoked especially in the Shingon school, the primary school of the Shikoku pilgrimage temples. Most main temples have as their venerated deity (honzon) one of the jūsanbutsu or one of their forms, such as the numerous manifestations of Kannon. Each Buddha has their own mantra, chanted during visits to the hondō (main hall of the temple).
